1 1 "Wolf Moon" Russell Mulcahy Jeff Davis and Jeph Loeb & Matthew Weisman June 5, 2011 (2011-06-05) 2.17[2]
Scott McCall, a 16-year-old unpopular kid, and his best friend Stiles go into the woods to find a dead body whose one half is missing, but Stiles' father, the sheriff, catches Stiles and takes him home. While Scott is going back home, he hears a wolf howl and is subsequently bitten in the abdomen by the wolf. The next day, at his high school's lacrosse team tryouts, Scott discovers new abilities like super hearing, enhanced strength, agility and reflexes. He is quickly noticed by the team captain Jackson. Scott gets the attention of the new girl, Allison, and gets a date to a party with her. Before he gets there, Stiles tells him that the full moon is upon them and he should stay away from Allison because he will turn into a werewolf. Scott ignores him and goes to the party anyway. At the party, he starts getting aches and pains from his first transformation into a werewolf and runs away, leaving Allison alarmed. Stiles later goes to Scott's house and tells him that Derek Hale, a mysterious young man, drove Allison home. Scott begins to view Derek as a threat to her as he thinks Derek is the werewolf who bit him. He goes into the woods where three hunters almost shoot him with an arrow, but he is saved by Derek. Derek reveals to him that he is a werewolf too and that they are "brothers" now. The next morning at school, Scott apologizes to Allison for leaving her at the party and finds out that one of the hunters is actually Allison's father.
2 2 "Second Chance at First Line" Russell Mulcahy Jeff Davis June 6, 2011 (2011-06-06) 1.47[3]
Scott tells Stiles that Allison's father was one of the hunters who tried to shoot him. Later, Scott hurts Jackson badly and dislocates his shoulder during lacrosse practice and subsequently starts transforming. Stiles take Scott to the locker room where Scott attacks him, but Stiles calms him down with the fire extinguisher. Later that night, Derek tells Scott not to show up at the game on Saturday night or he will transform into a werewolf. Coach Finstock, however, tells Scott that he's out if he doesn't play and Lydia asks him to continue being part of the team because if he doesn't, they will lose due to Jackson's bad shoulder. Scott goes to Derek and tells him to stay away from Allison. There, he suddenly smells the other half of the body from the first episode buried near Derek's house. Scott and Stiles report Derek to the sheriff and Derek is arrested. Scott makes the winning shot at the game and starts transforming. He runs to the locker room where Allison quickly comes for him. Scott manages to control himself and they both kiss. Stiles come to check on Scott and breaks the news that Derek has been released from jail since the body was ripped by an animal and the body is in fact of Laura Hale: Derek's sister. Jackson finds Scott's pierced glove in the field and looks at it with confusion as Derek watches from behind and vanishes, leaving Jackson alone.
3 3 "Pack Mentality" Russell Mulcahy Jeff Vlaming June 13, 2011 (2011-06-13) 1.82[4]
Scott and Allison are making out in a school bus, the adrenaline rush making Scott turn into a werewolf. He proceeds to attack Allison. Later at school, Scott talks with Stiles, revealing that the attack was a dream. As they walk out of the school, they see a bus, the emergency escape door hanging from a hinge, bloodied. Scott worries that it wasn't a dream and that he actually killed Allison, but is relieved to see Allison alive and well. While in class, Scott and Stiles see the real victim, torn up, though still alive, from the bus attack being wheeled to the ambulance. Scott then tells Stiles he must have attacked the bus driver. Scott sees pictures of the driver's intense wounds at the vet's office, where he works. Worried, he turns to Derek for help on controlling his inner wolf. Derek agrees to help as long as Scott promises him an unknown favor. Derek then sends Scott to the bus where he discovers (through flashbacks) that he didn't attack the bus driver but was trying to help him instead. Feeling better, Scott goes on a group date with Allison, Lydia and Jackson to the bowling alley where Jackson's suspicions of Scott increase. Stiles informs Scott that the bus driver has died from his wounds. Angry, Scott heads to Derek's house where they fight as werewolves until Derek reveals to Scott that he wasn't the one who bit him. Scott learns there is another wolf, a powerful Alpha, more animal than human, who actually bit him. He also learns that Derek's sister went looking for this Alpha before she was killed. Derek hopes to use Scott's connection to the Alpha (who wants Scott in his pack) to find him and for Scott to help (the promised favor). The camera cuts to the woods and closes in on glowing red eyes.
4 4 "Magic Bullet" Toby Wilkins Daniel Sinclair June 20, 2011 (2011-06-20) 1.80[5]
A woman driving her car at night is followed by a werewolf that tries to kill her. The woman grabs her gun and shoots at it. Derek is in the shadows, trying to follow the werewolf. As he jumps across the roof, he is shot in the arm with a bullet containing wolfsbane by the woman and falls in pain. Scott, awakened by howls, overhears Allison's dad and the woman, who turns out to be Allison's aunt Kate, saying Derek has 48 hours to live. The next day, Derek goes looking for Scott at his school and asks Jackson where he is. Jackson irritates him instead and Derek grabs the back of his neck, causing scratches from his wolf claws on Jackson's skin. After school, Stiles is leaving in his car when Derek appears, much to Stiles' and Scott's shock. Noticing he's ill, Scott and Stiles help him into the car. Derek tells them he needs a bullet like the one the hunter used on him. Stiles is left with Derek while Scott goes to Allison's house to find the bullet. Insisted by Kate, Scott stays for an awkward dinner while trying to deal with Stiles via texts and find the bullet. Stiles, having a hard time taking care of Derek, takes Derek to the vet's office. Derek's health is declining and he tells Stiles that if the wolfsbane from the bullet reaches his heart, he will die. Derek plans to have Stiles cut his arm off if they run out of time. Back at Allison's house, Scott excuses himself to the bathroom and is lured to Kate's weapon bag. Inside, he finds the type of bullet that was used on Derek and takes one. Scott makes it to the vet's office right before Stiles starts cutting Derek's arm. Derek removes the wolfsbane in the bullet, burns it, then applies the wolfsbane ashes to his wound, which supernaturally heals him. Scott admits the hunters of Allison's family seem like good people. To prove him wrong, Derek takes Scott to see his badly burned uncle. He solemnly tells Scott that a fire killed his entire family six years ago, even the ones who weren't werewolves, started by hunters who went against their own rules. Kate and Allison's father are talking about werewolves at home. It is then hinted that Kate was among the group of hunters who started the fire that killed Derek's family.
5 5 "The Tell" Toby Wilkins Monica Macer June 27, 2011 (2011-06-27) 1.68[6]
A video store clerk is changing light bulbs on a ladder. Lydia and Jackson are outside, trying to decide on a movie. While Lydia stays in the car, Jackson goes inside and finds the clerk with his throat ripped out. Horrified, Jackson hears growling and hides behind one of the shelves before peering out to see the eyes of the Alpha. The Alpha knocks down the shelves and Jackson is pinned to the floor. The Alpha almost attacks him but notices the claw marks on the back of Jackson's neck left by Derek. The Alpha then breaks through the window and runs off past Lydia, who screams in panic. Scott and Derek are up on the roof of the video store, where Derek shows Scott what the Alpha has done. Derek reminds Scott that the Alpha will kill him unless they team up to fight it. That morning, Allison receives a necklace with her family crest on it from her aunt Kate as a birthday present. Scott convinces Allison to skip school for the entire day for her birthday, to which Allison accepts. At school, Stiles is worried about Lydia because she is absent. He visits Lydia, who is loopy on pills, and finds a video on her phone of the Alpha jumping through the window at the video store with glowing red eyes. Stiles eventually decides to delete the video. Derek must deal with the hunters on his own, resulting in a confrontation with Kate. Stiles's father visits the vet with blurry security camera photos of the Alpha breaking through the window, running in the parking lot, and then appearing in the shape of a walking man. The vet acts oddly upon seeing the photos and it's hinted he may be hiding something. At Parent-Teacher Night, a description of Scott, Allison, Lydia, Jackson, and Stiles is given, revealing new information about each of them. Allison's father and Scott's mother find out that they have skipped school. Scott and Allison arrive, knowing they are in deep trouble. Just then, an unseen animal runs through the parking lot. The panicked crowd scatters and there is chaos before Allison's father shoots it. Everyone walks up to surround the dead animal and it turns out to be a mountain lion.
6 6 "Heart Monitor" Toby Wilkins Daniel Sinclair July 4, 2011 (2011-07-04) 1.21[7]
While Scott is trying to find his car in a parking garage, he sees a shadow, followed by a low growl, and begins running. A werewolf chases after him. Scott hides among a row of cars but his phone rings and he panics. The werewolf turns out to be Derek, who was testing Scott's skills. Upset, Scott asks Derek to seriously teach him how to control his changes. Derek says that he'll teach Scott if he stays away from Allison, as she is a distraction. Scott agrees but goes to see Allison anyway. After he leaves, he has a run-in with the Alpha who draws a spiral on his window, similar to the one on Derek's sister, Laura's grave. At home, Scott finds Derek in his room and tells him about the spiral. This disturbs Derek and he leaves. At school, Scott tries to avoid Allison. Since Scott's short temper is what sets off his transformation, Stiles insists on teaching Scott to control his anger. He keeps track of Scott's heart rate with a heart monitor. In bad situations, Scott keeps himself calm by thinking of Allison and realizes that she makes him weak. Jackson, disturbed by the claw marks on his neck, has hallucinations of claws coming from his mouth. Scott and Stiles realize that Allison helps control Scott's anger. Derek visits his burnt uncle and asks about the Alpha but leaves after no response. He finds an article about a dead deer with a spiral etched into its fur on his car. He learns the town vet dealt with the animal and visits him to ask about the animal. However, the vet lies and Derek angrily tries to get the truth from him. Scott stops him just as Derek knocks the vet out. Scott tells Derek to meet him tonight at school, where he and Stiles sneak in to use the PA system so Scott can call out the Alpha. Derek arrives with the unconscious vet in his car. After a loud howl from Scott, the boys go outside where they notice the vet is gone from Derek's car. Derek is then lifted by the Alpha and thrown against the school wall, laying motionless. The Alpha then goes after Scott and Stiles, who lock themselves in the school, panicked and unsure if Derek is still alive.
7 7 "Night School" Tim Andrew Jeff Vlaming July 11, 2011 (2011-07-11) 1.66[8]
Locked in the school, Scott and Stiles try to figure out how to escape from the Alpha safely. Their plan to get to Stiles's car is ruined when the Alpha throws the car's battery through the window. They try to find other ways out but the Alpha keeps them from leaving and murders the janitor. Allison goes to the school with Jackson and Lydia after she gets a mysterious text from Scott saying to meet him at the school. Soon enough, everyone gets trapped inside the cafeteria. Scott reveals he never sent Allison any text. They panic and Jackson, Lydia and Allison demand to know what's going on and who they're running from. Not knowing what to say, Scott says that Derek is the one after them. Lydia calls the police but they hang up on her, thinking it's a prank. They ask Stiles to call his father, the sheriff. Despite wanting to to keep his dad safe, Stiles calls him. The Alpha starts to break down the cafeteria doors and they all flee. While hiding in a science classroom, they find a locked door which leads them to a fire escape. Scott decides to find the janitor's body to get the keys. He follows the janitor's scent to the gym, where he finds the body under the bleachers. Just as he grabs the keys, the bleachers start to close and he tries to escape but instead comes face-to-face with the Alpha. The Alpha throws him across the room and lets out a loud howl, causing Scott to transform painfully. Jackson also reacts to the Alpha's howl, falling down in agony (due to his scratches). Scott, now in wolf form, makes his way back to the classroom. As he starts to enter, he hears Allison's voice which stops him. He thinks of her and runs from the door, changing back just as the Stiles' father arrives with the police. Outside, safe and free, Scott sees the vet, who had vanished previously from Derek's car, healthy and smiling. Finding this unsettling, Scott tells Stiles that the Alpha never planned to kill them at all. In fact, the Alpha wanted Scott to kill them himself so he could join the Alpha's pack. Scott says that this is dangerous because when he was in wolf form, he actually wanted to kill them all. Scott then catches up with Allison but she tells him she can't trust him and that he should not call her. She walks away, leaving Scott alone.
8 8 "Lunatic" Tim Andrew Monica Macer July 18, 2011 (2011-07-18) 1.76[9]
Stiles takes Scott into the woods to get drunk in an effort to comfort him after his break-up with Allison. As they drink, two men come and take the bottle, only for Scott, influenced by the coming full moon, to get angered and take it back by force. As the men leave, they are killed by the Alpha. The next morning, it is revealed that the high school is now reopened after the repairs due to the events of Night School. Scott is comforted by his mother about the breakup. As the day goes on, Scott begins showing bizarre behaviours unlike himself, culminating in his running out of a Economics exam when he hears every minute noise, such as pens clicking and fingers tapping. He is also scared by the questions, his mind twisting them into questions like "During the full moon, will you kill: A. All of your friends, B. Some of your friends, C. Most of your friends and D. None of the above. Stiles follows and the two decide to lock him up during the full moon, for fear that he may kill someone under its influence. Scott and Stiles have lacrosse practice, where it's announced that Stiles is now a starter and Scott is now a co-captain, which infuriates Jackson. Prior to practice, Scott goes to ask Lydia if she likes Stiles on Stiles' behalf; instead the conversation is shifted to how Allison was stupid to let Scott go and Lydia and Scott kiss. Scott later lies to Stiles and claims that she said she likes him. During practice, Scott is incredibly violent and leaves one player with a bloody nose. Allison and Jackson bond and go for a drive, where they discuss the attack on the school. Both agree that Derek was not their attacker. That evening, Stiles finds Scott sitting in the dark, his mood very dark and predatory. Stiles handcuffs Scott to a radiator to protect him from himself and for revenge on kissing Lydia. Scott goes wild, screaming in agony, yet unable to go free until the moon is unclouded. He transforms and escapes. Just as he is about to attack Jackson and Allison, Derek, who is alive, subdues him. The Argents discuss the two werewolves, seemingly concluding that there's a younger one alongside Derek. Scott, now back to normal and extremely scared about what is happening to him, asks if there's a cure. Derek confirms that there might be: To kill the one who bit you. He promises Scott that if Scott helps him find the Alpha, he will help Scott kill him. Jackson finds a claw-nail on his car, left by Scott, and realizes that it matches the hole in Scott's pierced glove that he found in Episode 2.
9 9 "Wolf's Bane" Tim Andrew Jonathon Roessler July 25, 2011 (2011-07-25) 1.93[10]
Jackson discovers Scott's secret and wants to become a werewolf like Scott, although Scott tries to tell him that being a werewolf is not all it's cracked up to be. Jackson becomes closer with Allison, dumping Lydia in the process. Derek is on the run from police as he is a suspect in the murders since Scott put the blame on him for the events of "Night School." Stiles' father interrogates Scott's chemistry teacher, who guiltily explains that he had met Kate Argent years before and explained to her how to set a fire after she got him drunk and that a few days after, the fire that killed Derek's family occurred. Although he doesn't remember Kate, he draws the Argent family crest on paper and gives it to Derek as a lead. Scott tells Derek he saw the crest on Allison's necklace and Derek asks him to find the necklace, as it has to do with her family's secret and will help unveil some mysteries. Scott sneaks into Allison's room and finds the necklace in the pages of an old book after rummaging around. He takes a look at the book and realizes it has to do with werewolves. Before Scott leaves, he is caught by Allison's father. Mr. Argent asks Scott how he knows Derek Hale, since he is an alleged murderer but Scott says that he doesn't talk to him much and everything he did while they were locked in the school that night was to protect Allison, which Allison overhears. Stiles and Derek trace the sender of the mysterious text message from "Night School" to the hospital from Melissa McCall's account. Stiles' father tells him that he will be at Stiles' lacrosse game that night. Despite knowing he will miss the game, Stiles goes to the hospital with Derek, where Derek's burned uncle is staying. With a nasty shock, they find out that Derek's uncle is in fact the Alpha and that his nurse has been helping him kill people all along. At the lacrosse game, Jackson gives Scott 72 hours to turn him into a werewolf. As Stiles and Derek are being attacked by the Alpha and trying to fight him off, they discover facts about him.
10 10 "Co-Captain" Russell Mulcahy Jeff Vlaming August 1, 2011 (2011-08-01) 1.49[11]
Stiles uses his father's research to get answers about the Alpha's victims. Apparently, the Alpha has been killing only the ones who were involved with the fire that killed the Hale family. Jackson is suspected to be one of the werewolves and Allison's father tries to get the truth out of him. Scott is angered by this but Jackson is still keen on becoming a werewolf. Derek and his uncle appear while Scott is in the school locker room. They want him to enter the pack. Scott is shocked that Derek is suddenly on the Alpha's side. The Alpha punctures Scott's neck, showing him what really happened during the fire and the murders through flashbacks. He reveals that the murder of Derek's sister was an accident and shows him that as well. While looking for her necklace with the family crest, Allison finds the sharp end of an arrow left behind by Kate and tries it out in the woods with Lydia. She shoots Scott with a taser, thinking him to be an intruder. She apologizes and Scott reveals that he was there to return her family crest necklace. Allison hugs him and leaves quickly. She later visits Scott's house, wanting to talk to him. At the same time, they see that Scott's mom, Melissa, is preparing for a date. Scott opens the door to see that Melissa's date is Derek's uncle, the Alpha. The Alpha unceasingly wants Scott to join him and Derek, and plans to convert Melissa into a werewolf as a means of coercing Scott to join the pack. Scott leaves Allison in his bedroom to follow his mom and manages to thwart the Alpha's plan. After entering the Hale property, Scott appears to save Jackson from being killed. There's gunfire from enemy lines--Kate. Scott gets shot and someone carries him out of the woods: the town vet. When he takes the bullet out of Scott's body, he reveals that he only works healing cats and dogs 90% of the time, leaving him to know that the other 10% are werewolves. Kate reveals the family secret to Allison. It's revealed that she's got Derek tied up with chains against the wall, torturing him by electrocuting him with high voltage power.
11 11 "Formality" Russell Mulcahy Monica Macer August 8, 2011 (2011-08-08) 1.74[12]
The winter formal is coming up at the school. Kate explains about werewolves and werewolf hunters to Allison by using the kidnapped Derek as an example. Allison leaves in a panic and, after being pulled over by Sheriff Stilinski, decides to be strong. While the vet is taking care of Scott, he is accostled by Peter, who threatens him. The vet however, refuses to give Scott to him. Peter throws furniture at him but the vet appears fine, standing solid. Frustrated, Peter leaves. Coach Finstock informs Scott that due to his academic standing, he won't be allowed to attend the dance. This concerns Scott and Stiles, who are fully aware that the Alpha is after Allison. Thus, Scott pleads with Jackson into asking Allison to the dance to protect her, but he refuses, saying that none of this is his problem. As a result, Scott shifts into a werewolf and forces Jackson to ask her, while Allison convinces Lydia to ask Stiles. They go shopping for formal clothes, where Peter approaches Allison under the guise of giving fashion advice. However, Scott's quick thinking pulls her out of the mall and away from him. That evening, Kate speaks to Derek, revealing that the two were in a relationship at one point. She figures out that Scott is the second Beta. At the dance, Jackson has gotten drunk and is reluctant to spend time with Allison. Stiles has success in wooing Lydia by appealing to her high intellect but she is on the lookout for Jackson. Scott also arrives and is spotted by Finstock; however, with some unwitting help from Danny, he manages to get Finstock off his back. He approaches Allison and confesses that he loves her, leading to a kiss. Jackson drunkenly stumbles into the woods and sees what he thinks is a werewolf. He demands to be changed, only to see that the silhouettes are that of hunters, led by Mr. Argent. Jackson reveals Scott's identity to them. Lydia is distant with Stiles and leaves to find Jackson. Instead, Stiles finds Jackson, who is in a confused daze. Lydia walks out to the field, where she's attacked by Peter before Stiles can come to her rescue. Peter asks Stiles where Derek is, threatening to kill an unconscious Lydia. Scott and Allison go to the school buses for time alone and Allison enters a bus, beckoning Scott to come in. Before he can, Scott is blocked in between two cars, one of which is driven by Chris Argent. The two cars collide, about to crush Scott; Scott jumps up, on top of the cars. As Scott looks up, he has transformed into a werewolf, revealing his identity to a horrified Allison.
12 12 "Code Breaker" Russell Mulcahy Jeff Davis August 15, 2011 (2011-08-15) 2.08[13]
Scott, now in werewolf form, runs away from the Argents. Chris is outraged that Kate told Allison everything beforehand and forces Kate to retreat with Allison to a safe house in Washington until the Alpha is put down. Allison tries to come to terms with the fact that Scott is a werewolf. The Alpha forces Stiles to help him find Scott and Derek, revealing that Lydia - if she doesn't die - will become a werewolf. With Stiles's help, he locates the two, while Scott finds Derek himself. When Derek refuses to help him, Scott reveals that Peter killed the previous Alpha (Derek's sister) to become the Alpha. At the hospital where Lydia is, Jackson and Stiles are approached by Chris and his team; Stiles reveals, through his research, that Kate was the one who burned down the Hale household, thus breaking the hunters' code of not killing the innocent, as there were children in that house. As Scott and Derek flee through the woods, they are attacked by Kate and Allison, only to be stopped by Chris. Chris confronts Kate after realizing her true nature and threatens to kill her if she doesn't take the gun off Scott, whom he realizes never killed anyone. Just then, Peter reveals himself. A battle ensues between Peter, Kate, Chris, Scott, Derek and Allison. Peter slits Kate's throat in revenge for burning down the Hale house, killing her. Before he can attack Allison, Scott takes up the battle with Derek, whom is soon knocked out. After a short fight between the Alpha and the Beta, Jackson and Stiles arrive and throw a Molotov cocktail, which Lydia had showed them how to make during "Night School." Peter catches the first flask before it hits him, but Allison shatters the container by shooting it with her bow-and-arrow, burning the Alpha. Jackson throws the second flask at the Alpha and successfully burns him as well. The Alpha then attempts to kill Allison despite being horribly burned, but Scott subdues him by kicking him down. Before Scott can get the cure by killing Peter, Derek cuts Peter's throat in vengeance for his sister's death and thus, becomes the new Alpha, a fact he takes to gleefully. Allison kisses Scott and says she loves him, which her father seems to accept. Later, Scott and Stiles check on Lydia--she's not healing like a werewolf would, so Stiles wonders what she is now, if not a werewolf. Jackson approaches Derek and demands the bite. Derek grins maliciously and bears his fangs towards the camera; it is left ambiguous as to what he exactly does. In the final scene, Chris tells his wife that Scott has more to worry about than just hunters, while Scott and Allison embrace lovingly on her rooftop, gazing at the waning moon as if in anticipation.
